O’s Hide From Radio Critique by Switching Channels
By now you’ve probably heard that the Baltimore Orioles will no longer be heard on WBAL Radio like they have been for the past 19 seasons. Today though, the reasons why this change was made are starting to filter out. If you believe WBAL’s side of the story, and I for one am inclined to do so, the Orioles put their broadcasts on WHFS radio because HFS agreed to give the Orioles control over the content of pre and post game shows. Cal Get’s 3rd Highest Vote Total EVER!
Update: IT’S OFFICIAL!!! Cal Ripken Jr. will become a Hall of Famer in the 2007 class with 98.5% of the vote! That’s the 3rd highest vote total of all time! (In other news, it’s confirmed that 1.5% of the baseball writers in America are stupid.)
It’s not a regular event lately that we get to talk about great Oriole news. But when a good story comes along, it arrives with a vengeance! Today is the big day for former Orioles shortstop and general fan favorite Cal Ripken! (Well, it’s the day that they announce that the real big day is official anyway) Read the rest of this entry »
RAVEN REVENGE
Obviously this is an Orioles’ web page. But it’s also about Baltimore. And right now the biggest thing going on in this town isn’t baseball related. This week, the biggest story out there is about the hated Colts trying to come back through Baltimore on their way to the AFC Championship game. Well I, for one, want to see that train get derailed! So today’s column is all about supporting the Ravens! (Don’t worry O’s fans, we’ll be talking about Cal’s official green light into the Hall of Fame tomorrow!) Read the rest of this entry »
Prediction Time!
Well there’s not much going on in the baseball world this time of year, but that means it’s as far from being able to be proven wrong as possible. So let’s have some fun with this time of the year and make some predictions! Read the rest of this entry »
Welcome to Baltimore, Aubrey Huff
Aubrey Huff, one of the few Tampa Bay Devil Ray hitters that Oriole fans didn’t like to see facing our young pitching staff, will now don an orange jersey and use his power to help the Birds instead of hurting them. This is according to the Baltimore Sun, who reports that Huff and the Orioles have agreed to terms on a 3 year deal worth about $20 million. Read the rest of this entry »
A Cooperstown Christmas
This is the time of year when we all compare our Christmas gifts with one another. We discuss our favorite presents and the ones that make us wonder what the hell people were thinking when they bought them. You know, like pink bunny pajamas that make us look like deranged Easter bunnies. Well my godmother wins the ‘best gift’ contest hands down. Unfortunately this wasn’t given to her by me, but she received tickets to the 2007 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Cooperstown where Cal Ripken will join the most elite in the game’s history. My jealousy over this got me to thinking about this year’s induction class. Mostly I’m wondering if the tenured baseball writers will consider whether or not anyone on this year’s ballot deserves to share the stage with Ripken and Tony Gwynn. Read the rest of this entry »

O’s Need New Vacation Spot for Spring Break
According to the Miami Herald, the ongoing epic drama that has been the Orioles’ attempt to upgrade their Fort Lauderdale complex and keep it as their Spring Training home is apparently over, and not in the good way. After the Birds pack up and head to Baltimore following the upcoming 2007 warm up season the team will begin the search for a new facility to christen in 2008. Read the rest of this entry »
All I Want For Christmas Is…
Well my life is still ultra busy this week so I’m sticking with the time honored writing style of asking the readers a question and letting you all give the answers! Today I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the game experience at Camden Yards and what one thing you’d change about it. Read the rest of this entry »
New and Different
So, things look a little new and different around here, huh? As you can see we’re making big changes here at MVN. (Look out, ESPN.com because competition is coming!) For the next few days things might seem a little awkward. Layouts might not work properly. There might be some HTML code that gets scrambled between the MVN server and your web browser. But bear with us. We’ll hammer out the bugs and have Oriole Magic as good as new (mainly because it will be new) soon! Read the rest of this entry »
